There are a lot of Christian activists today who appear to think that Christianity consists of trying to force other people to live right. It is always the other man who is the sinner, the one who is responsible for the wrongs of the world, and they want to do good and straighten the world out by forcing him to live right. Well, trying to coerce other people to do the right thing is not the Christian way. Jesus never taught any kind of coercion or force. He didn't teach it and his apostles didn't teach it. The emphasis of Christ was on yourself: on you repenting of sin, on you following God's way, on you living right. You can't make people live right by force. People will do what they want. Goodness and right action has to come from within, from the heart. It comes from a God-fearing, God-loving heart; a heart that loves Goodness and Righteousness. All you can and should do is to try to get people to turn to God. June 2005
