The test of a person’s Christianity is what he is
One of the most important lessons I have learned in life is to listen to my intuition. My mind can be fooled but my intuition is rarely wrong. My intuition almost invariably guides me right. Many, many times my mind has not been able to give reasons, but my intuition has told me , “No”. And then later, I was very, very happy that I listened to my intuition. Or very sorry that I didn’t listen to it.
When someone claims to be a Christian, I have learned to be a skeptic. I have learned to adopt a wait and watch attitude. There is a way to tell if a person is a real Christian or not. How is that? You watch him. You find out what kind of person he is. His true self usually reveals itself with time. A true Christian is an upright, godly man. He is a person of integrity, morality, decency, goodness, character. He is a good person that you can trust and depend on, an honest person of truth. How do I know this? From my intuition. My intuition tells me that it is so. But it is also confirmed by the words of Jesus:
Matt 7:15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
So if I go to a church and hear all kinds of persuasive religious talk, pious cant, dogma, doctrine, etc, that is not enough. I need to know what kind of people these people are. Is all this talk for real or is it all self-deception and foolishness? I only want the genuine article. I don’t want to be sucked into foolishness. You find out what is genuine and what is false from the fruit. The true Christian reads the Bible, knows the Bible, loves the Bible, and is a god-fearing, god-loving man of integrity. True Christians have a certain “feel” to them. I know them by the feel. And I know the counterfeit by the feel.
The test of Christianity is what a person is. Large numbers in this country regard themselves as Christians. But we live in a country filled with Christian apostasy. True Christians are hard to find.
