The careful, conscientious person is usually also the slow person. And this person is grossly wronged by our society. He is a member of a minority group that is a target of continual bias, prejudice and discrimination. He is generally viewed as a slow learner, of a lower "IQ" than others, and treated as mentally inferior. He is penalized and discriminated against through the use of time tests in school. He is penalized in the workplace by bosses who want speed and quantity and have no patience with slow workers. And all these attitudes and biases produce complexes and stresses in him. They produce insecurity, anti-social attitudes, anger, resentment, and many other things. He is the target of gross social injustice and his emotional response is the natural one. Regarded as inferior by society he can either accept that judgment or he can defiantly refuse to accept it. There are mental and emotional quagmires associated with either response. Dec 1992
