Too much reading of romantic novels, romantic type literature, can addle the mind. This assertion is suggested in Don Quixote, Madame Bovary and other books. It is an important observation, a true one. Too much reading of romantic material can deeply influence a mind. Children and idealistic, impressionable people are especially susceptable. These books can draw a person further and further from reality and cloud understanding of life. I read a lot of romantic material when I was a child and I think it made a deep impression on my mind. It created false images and generated false expectations of life. May 1985
