I will reserve this webpage for Jimmy Dore videos. I have a high regard for Jimmy Dore. I think he is right on many things. I think he does diagnose the causes of many problems correctly although I am skeptical about his solutions. He is a real radical calling for the working class to rise up against the billionaire class oligarchy. He wants the railway workers and truck drivers to go on strike and bring the economy to a standstill. I would say that when there is no food on the supermarket shelves that will get surely the attention of everyone and will surely upset a lot of people. It will create a lot of pressure for something. It will force something to happen.
I would point out that the billionaire class does provide a very important service to the working class. Its capital makes capitalism work. It provides jobs for people. And what is more important to the working man than his job? Who has more leverage in a contest between the working man and the capitalist? The capitalist can always move his capital to another country. It is true that you can empower the working man by taking the route of Communism or Socialism. But that has been tried. It just doesn’t work very well. And there are reasons why it doesn’t work well. It is built on government bureaucracy and government bureaucracies are always very wasteful and inefficient. Why is the economy of the United States so much more vibrant than that of Burundi down in the heart of Africa? I would say it has a lot to do with the number of capitalists in the country and the amount of capital.
Jimmy Dore makes the point that in China the government is over the capitalist and in America the capitalist is over the government. I think this is a valid point. It does appear that in China the government is working for the good of the people (and has achieved very impressive things in that regard) and it does appear that here in the USA the capitalist does not care much about anyone or anything except making money for himself. And the source of his power is the influence he exerts over politicians by the big contributions he makes to them for their election campaigns. He gets those people elected who will help him.
Here the United States squanders trillions of dollars on endless foolish wars that create great numbers of homeless, displaced people whereas over in China the government spends its money on constructive things like dams, bridges, and tunnels.
Jimmy Dore does make one argument that I don’t buy. He asserts that the fact that most Americans never save any money and many are in debt is evidence that they are being exploited. I understand that most people who are making 300,000 or 400,000 a year don’t save any money. I think it is all about mentality and that most people could save money with the right habits and a mind to do it. I do agree that the cost of health insurance in this country is absolutely ridiculous. $27,000 a year for health insurance is ridiculous. Many countries (including China) have health care that is very affordable. If other countries can do it why can’t we? Something is not right here.
