Myself at 87 years old

I am now 87 years old. I have never uttered a curse word or profane, vulgar, obscene or four letter word in my life. Nor would I ever. It is important to me. I have never touched alcohol, tobacco or any drugs. Nor would I ever. I stopped watching television in the 1970s and have not watched it since. (I didn’t like the changing content and the language i.e. the vulgarity). I stopped going to movies in the 1960s and haven’t gone to any since. I have never rented movies or videos or subscribed to any streaming services. I stopped reading fiction and listening to drama. Why? What is the reason for all this? I don’t want my mind and understanding to be twisted, distorted and perverted by a degenerate, corrupt society. I don’t trust authors. Most are probably depraved or of a much different outlook than I. I prefer to observe life with my own eyes, assess the facts I see, and come to my own conclusions in regard to truth. I don’t approve of my society and I reject it. I don’t dance, gamble or play cards.

What is behind all this? Religion. My commitment to the Christianity that I find in the Bible. It is all about what it means to me to be a Christian.

I live by rules. I have walked 5 miles a day for the last 45 years. Why? Health. I think walking is important. I keep my weight down to a healthy level. My wife and I take health seriously and we live on a simple diet — mostly vegetarian — minimizing salt, grease and sugar. My wife is nearly 86 and we are both still healthy.

My wife and I are frugal. Most people would probably say we are very frugal. No food is ever wasted or thrown out in our house. I almost never spend any money on personal items. I wear a $10.00 watch that I purchased in Walmart. Most of my clothes probably came from the Salvation Army store, Dollar Store or Walmart. We never spend anything on entertainment. (We watch YouTube for entertainment.) We never eat out at restaurants. We save and invest our money instead of spending it. We currently drive a Toyota truck that is 14 years old and we got 19 years from our previous vehicle before someone rear-ended us. We don’t have a cell phone. We have no need for one.

I wonder how many people in this country could say they have never used a curse word or four-letter word in their life? Perhaps I am cynical but I doubt that there are many.

This country is a mess. Look at all of the drug and alcohol addicts. Look at all of the people with mental problems. Look at all of the confused, messed-up, unhappy people in this country. Look at all of the single people who can’t find partners. I doubt that you will find many people in this country who have never used drugs — especially younger people. This country has been in a continual process of moral and spiritual degeneration from as long as I can remember. How many people in this country do you think there are who have never watched pornography? I doubt that there are many. Homosexuality is standing in high profile here. Those who oppose it are condemned and ostracized. The country has sunk to the deepest moral depths.

I suggest something: It is all about personal philosophy and the rules you live by — or the lack of rules. How you live — the rules by which you live or lack of rules — makes all of the difference.

Look to the Bible. Find out how to live there. I believe God has taken care of me and my wife. There is a god up there. He is real. And he takes care of his own.
