I think fear is behind many mental problems. However, I wish to point out something. Fear is closely connected to the mind and intellect and is very important to all creatures. Our mind informs us of danger and causes fear. It is fear that causes a creature to try to escape if he detects a predator nearby. Whether it is insect, bird, fish or mammal, his mind and natural reaction to danger is what protects him. A rabbit that didn’t become frightened when he saw an approaching fox wouldn’t live long. God created all creatures to be able to recognize and respond to danger.
There are some things that do people a lot of harm — like pride (excessive pride), inner anger, hatred, envy, jealousy, greed and lust. They are in general just negative psychological phenomena with no positives. See Stay away from these demons: Pride, Anger, Hatred, Lust, Envy and Jealousy. Fear is another thing that can do a lot of damage. Fear can be caused by self-doubt and lack of confidence and feelings of insecurity are, at bottom, about fear. However, fear can play very positive roles. A person perceives a danger that it could happen that he suddenly lose his job for one reason or another and he responds to that danger by saving money. Thoughtful people take measures and employ strategies when they perceive dangers. They see dangers here and there, in this and that, and it influences how they live their lives. They live their lives in such a way as to minimize risks and dangers.
