Explain what a true Christian is

I just saw a YouTube video in which a fellow from a moderately liberal Amish sect (Beachy Amish) was trying to explain to an outsider his faith. From what he said I took him to be a real Christian trying to explain what being a Christian was all about. He was struggling to explain it. I thought to myself, “Suppose I were trying to explain to a non-believer what being a real Christian was all about. How would I explain it?” Well, in this world there are different types of people. There are many people who are atheists or agnostics. An atheist doesn’t believe there is a god. He has come to the definite opinion that there is none. An agnostic doesn’t know if there is a god or not. He is a skeptic as to the question of whether there is a god. Well, a Christian is definitely neither of those. A Christian believes implicitly that there is a god. That is his faith. There are also many people who do believe in a god but view him as some distant far off entity who is not very approachable. That is not a Christian either. To understand what a Christian is you really need to have read the Bible, especially the New Testament, and to understand the message of the New Testament. The message of Jesus was first of all repentance from sin and then being “born again” by a personal commitment to God. A Christian is a person who has acknowledged his sin and turned to God and committed himself to living the kind of life that God wants. He is a person who has an implicit belief and faith in God and is serious about living as God wants. As to what God wants, there is an abundance of scripture that tells us what God wants. See Way of true Christianity. A Christian is a person who loves God and is personally committed to living as God wants. God is real to him and important to him. He prays to God regularly and has a personal relationship with God. This personal relationship with God is something that a non-Christian doesn’t know about or understand.
