Five things totalitarian governments always do
The following are five things that totalitarian governments always do.
1. Confiscate all guns from the general populace. (The only people allowed to have guns are the enforcers of the state i.e. the police and military.)
2. Ban all criticism of the State on threat of imprisonment or death.
3. Create a central police agency that apprehends and imprisons (or executes) all people who show discontent with the state.
4. Take control of all mass media (newspapers, TV stations, radio, internet, etc.) and insure that they present to the public only that which accords with the official government line.
5. Establish a school system that indoctrinates all students in the beliefs, values, and outlooks of the state to ensure the support of future generations.
Communist governments always do the above five things.
The natural first thing for a totalitarian government to do when it acquires power is to confiscate all guns from the populace. This is just a common sense precaution against uprisings. This renders the entire population powerless to oppose the state. Everyone is then under the full power of the state (i.e. the citizens are like prisoners in a prison). The state can then do whatever they wish with the people. They can make whatever rules they wish and force everyone to follow.
People with a totalitarian mentality are very practical people. They understand that if they attempt to impose a system on a population that doesn’t work well or has a lot of faults people may become unhappy and the populace might revolt and their own heads might roll. Thus they dare not allow criticism for the sake of their own safety. They understand that justified discontent, justified anger, justified open criticism can very rapidly mushroom into a monster they can’t control unless forcibly held down. Likewise unless they control what is said in the mass media and in the school system people may start thinking for themselves and become critical of the system and rebel. They understand that most people are like sheep and are easily led and mostly believe what they are told if they have no other sources of information. They know people can be made to believe almost any deception or lie if it is repeated enough times and they have access to no other source of information that contradicts it. Thus it is imperative that the State control information, control what people know (or think they know) and indoctrinate the populace into the “right” outlooks, attitudes and beliefs — and thus control people’s minds.
