Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment
How very, very important are our words!
Matt 12:34 .... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you shalt be justified, and by your words thou shalt be condemned. Words of Jesus
In this statement Jesus not only confirms that a great day of judgment will come (for the benefit of any person who might doubt it) but, also, a little bit of the kind of things about a person that will be considered there.
Watch your words! Be very careful about the things you say to people! Be very careful about the things you say about other people! Once you say a thing it can’t be recalled or unsaid! It is written indelibly on the moving scroll of time!
I think about how some married couples argue and fight. When people get angry they often lose control of themselves and say really ugly things to others that they ought never say. They can say things that the other person will never forget or forgive. An arrogant, vindictive person can totally destroy his marriage just with an ugly, nasty tongue! This is one reason why it is so important to be kind, thoughtful, and flexible with your spouse and avoid argument. Couples who don’t control their tongues can turn their homes into hellholes.
One of the best rules in life is to never talk bad about other people. But if you do say something bad about someone be absolutely sure it is true. Watch your tongue!
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. What is in the heart tends to come out. If what is in the heart is anger, hatred, pride, arrogance, malice, spite, and venom it is likely to come out. If what is in the heart is kindness, thoughtfulness, peacefulness, humility, goodness, patience, and friendliness it is likely to come out.
Many people talk maliciously about other people for whatever their reasons — be they envy, hatred, revenge, or whatever. I am 82. I was just thinking before I wrote this that I don’t think of any bad thing that I have ever said about another person. I don’t have anything on my conscience in this regard. I am glad about that.
