Spirit possession
Sometimes when I am lying down just resting, or perhaps when lying in bed when I am unable to get to sleep, my mind wanders over memories of my past. And some of these things that pass through my mind may be things I have done (or been tempted to do) for which I am ashamed. I think to myself, “Whatever possessed me to do that!? Or “Whatever possessed me to consider doing that!?” “How could I have even thought of doing such a thing!? How could such an ignoble, low impulse have ever taken possession of me!? It would have been such a wrong, foolish and stupid thing to do! Doing such a thing could have messed my life all up! What ever got into me that made me think that way?!” What I am talking about often takes the form of temptations. Especially sexual temptations. As I think about those wrong thoughts that have in the past temporarily seized my mind I wonder about myself, wonder how I could have even had such a thought. Anyway, I want to make the point that wrong impulses, or desires, or temptations, take the form of “possessing you”. It is as if an evil spirit temporarily got into you, bewitched you, and took possession of you. Well, I think it is sexual desire or sexual attraction (something associated with the sexual force in man) that is very often responsible for these temporary “possessions”. However, I want to point out that there are other things beside sexual desire or lust that can “possess” a person. Like what? Like envy, jealousy, inner anger, hatred, malice, greed, rage (or temporary anger), and pride. And some of these — like inner anger, hatred, maliciousness, spitefulness, vengefulness, envy, greed, jealousy, and pride — can take possession in a long term permanent kind of way. They become a permanent part of how you think and feel, of your mentality. Again, they are like evil spirits possessing you.

Could it be that evil spirits do actually possess us? From the way the phenomenon presents itself, it would seem like they did. Satan is a very real entity in this world. And so are the demons of that “other world”, that “other dark dimension”.
There are a whole lot of people who are very confused, “messed up”, mixed up, in this world. Could demon possession be involved?
Most of the peoples living south of our border in the countries of Central and South America have varying amounts of Indian blood in them. Many people in some countries, such as Bolivia, Ecuador, and Guatemala are pure Indian. In most of the rest of the countries most of the people are of mixed blood, usually with a lot more Indian blood than white blood. In many or perhaps most of these countries the old Indian beliefs are very much alive. Their religion seems to be a kind of mixture of Catholicism and Indian religion. The Spanish brought Catholicism to Latin America but often it seems to have formed a rather thin veneer over a substratum of Indian belief, or a mixture, instead of replacing it. The Indian religions of the peoples of the Americas before the coming of the white man were shamanistic and closely tied to the occult. In addition, they had a strong tendency toward warfare and violence. For example, the religious beliefs of the Aztecs and Mayans involved sacrificing huge numbers of peoples to the gods every year.

In the indigenous Indian societies young women were sold by their fathers to men for wives as is the custom in many countries in Asia today. Women were treated as chattel or slaves. Multiple wives, fornication, and adultery were common. Perhaps this influence from Indian outlooks is the reason for the high level of promiscuity in Latin American countries today.
In addition, belief in various kinds of witchcraft is very prevalent in Latin America. You have, for example, the beliefs of the Haitian Voodoo, Cuban Santeria, and Brazilian Candomble rooted in African magic. See

All of this coupled with the Spanish culture and its outlooks and values makes for a very different mentality from the Protestant Christian mentality of the United States.
I have reason to believe a lot of Latin Americans have a lot of anger inside them. My wife has a Latin friend who seems to have a tremendous amount of bad luck and is wondering if some Latin has placed a curse on her. It is something that vicious Latins sometimes do. Perhaps it is connected with the Indian component of their religious beliefs.
