One man’s junk is another man’s treasure
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. What I think is junk another man regards with high esteem. I have been reading short stories from anthologies of short stories of well known authors from countries around the world, as selected by some expert or board of experts. I have not been overly impressed by most of the short stories I have read. What one person looks for in a short story may not be the same as what another looks for. It is like food. What another person thinks is really great and rates highly, I might not rate very highly at all. I am not looking for entertainment. I look for things like insights, universal truths, lessons. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate the most of the stories I have read at less than 5.
Birds of a feather flock together. Birds of different feather flock separately. Birds of my feather may have my tastes and outlooks and tend to like the same stories that I like. But there are many kinds of birds in this world. Different authors have different outlooks and viewpoints. And different experts have different opinions on the merits of a particular short story.
