Gen 13:1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. 2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. 5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. 6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. 7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. 8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren. 9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. 11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. 12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. .......

Gen 18:20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. ......

19:12 And the men (the angels) said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

19:24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: 28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

What was the great sin of Sodom and Gomorrah and the other cities of that plain? It was homosexuality. Read the full account in Genesis 18:20 - 19:29. This event occurred around 2000 BC. From this account one can see that the practice of homosexuality was very widespread even in those ancient times. And, as is obvious from this account, God takes a very dim view of it.

I wonder if the high wickedness of Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Miami and other such cities here in America is not right now crying out to heaven for divine action. I am sure I would be laughed to scorn by the vast majority of Americans for even suggesting such a thing — just like Lot’s sons in law laughed Lot to scorn when he told them God was going to destroy their city. This suggestion would certainly not be very politically correct in today’s liberal, godless America.

I don’t know if God will do the same thing to America as he did to Sodom and Gomorrah but I do know this: every single person in America is mortal. That means that each has been allotted only a relatively short period of time here on earth and time does pass quickly. Before you know it that time is all used up. Then after this life lies that eternity that follows where each of us will receive as he has lived. The Good will receive as they have lived and the Wicked and Depraved will receive as they have lived.

Lev 18:22,24 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It

is an abomination. Do not defile yourselves with any of these

things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am

casting out before you.

Lev 20:13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman,

both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely

be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

Rom 1:26-28 For this cause God gave them up unto vile

affections: for even their women did change the natural use

into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men,

leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one

toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly,

and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error

which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in

their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do

those things which are not convenient;

Jude 7 ... as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them

in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to

sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth

as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

1 Cor 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not

inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither

fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,

nor sodomites, {10} nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards,

nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Allow me to make this observation: From the viewpoint of modern “intellectually advanced”, “politically correct” twenty first century America the above scripture on homosexuality would be regarded as hate speech, carrying views totally unacceptable in today’s America. Because of such attitudes, the Bible would be viewed as outdated and morally incorrect, and the god of the Bible would be rejected as bogus or false. It is thought modern western man has advanced far past the truth found in the Bible and knows better. In fact, one cannot accept the moral outlooks, attitudes, and values of modern western man and also be a Christian. If he thinks he can, he is deceiving himself. The two are in total opposition to each other. From the point of view of Christianity (real Christianity), modern western man has simply followed in the way of wickedness and evil; the way of that ruler of this world, Satan. (Which is nothing new. Man has been rejecting God, rebelling against him, for as long as he has been on earth.) In actual fact, the moral outlooks of most of the countries of the world (including China, India, Russia, the Islamic countries, etc.) are far closer to the Biblical outlook than are those of the modern liberal West.

In actual fact, I live in a highly decadent culture, a culture way off track morally and spiritually. A few centuries from now our current times will be regarded as a period of high decadence (morally and intellectually) in the history of the West.
