The serious person verses the unserious, easygoing person
Personality traits go in groups. One group is the serious, determined, strong-willed group:

Def. Impotence. The condition or quality of being impotent; especially: helplessness, ineffectiveness

Def. Ineffectual. Not effectual; not able to produce a proper or intended effect.
Seriousness in a personality, acting over a period of years, produces an able, capable, knowledgeable person. Lack of seriousness in a personality produces a shallow, impotent, ineffectual person.
I have observed a lot of impotent, ineffectual people over the years. Even many elderly people. How can a person get up into his 80's and still be helpless and incapable of doing anything? Perhaps my observations give insight into the reason why. There are few character traits as important as self-reliance and independence. And underlying these traits is seriousness.
