Humankind — slaves to various lusts and pleasures, malice, envy, and hate
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Does the above description sound like the world that we live in? It does to me. I have lived in this world for 78 years and the above description sounds like an extremely accurate description of the vast majority of mankind to me. I look around me and that is what I see everywhere. And it seems to me that it applies to no one better than it does to the modern liberal. But there is another way. One does not have to serve various lusts and pleasures; live in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. That is what Christianity (true Christianity) is all about. One must simply seriously listen to what Jesus (and his disciples and the apostles) had to say. The way of Jesus is the opposite of all of that. And the Way of Jesus gives a far happier life. And, in addition, it gives promise of an eternity in heaven in the life after this one. To follow Jesus is within the power of everyone. It is all about attitude. You just have to take God seriously, decide to do it — and then do it. Jesus said, “You must be born again.” And to be born again is to replace all of the above with the opposite.
1 Peter 4:3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4. Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
