Truth, Righteousness, and Faith — the Christian’s armor against the fiery darts of Satan
Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
What can we learn from the above passage? Satan rules this world. As in a puppet show with a puppeteer behind the screen pulling strings, so in this world that we live in there is a master Deceiver and Trickster, an evil being, Satan, behind the screen manipulating people and events for his own purposes. What is his object? To deceive humanity into following him, following his way of immorality, lewdness, badness and evil. Why would he want to do this? Because he is the great rebel against God, hates God and God’s way of Goodness, Morality, and Virtue, and wants to entice humanity into following him instead of God. God has decreed that in the end Satan and all of the demons under him will be thrown into an eternal hell, a place of everlasting torment, and Satan wants as much of humanity as possible to go with him. So by lie, deception and trickery he entices people to follow him and his ways. Satan is a great enemy of Christians. Although Satan uses his human followers to achieve his ends in this world, the real enemy of the Christian is not all those legions of humanity who are deceived followers of Satan but rather Satan and all the powers of darkness under him. How can a Christian protect himself against all the lies, tricks, and stratagems of Satan? The passage above gives the answer to this question. It is with Truth, Righteousness, and Faith. The above passage depicts the Christian as a soldier. With Truth, Righteousness, and Faith as our armor and shield, all of the fiery darts of Satan just bounce off. What is our weapon in this war against Satan? It is God’s word, the Bible. It is the message of Jesus.
