A morally permissive society
American society is said to be “morally permissive”. The term “morally permissive” is a euphemism.
euphemism. 1. Substitution of a mild or roundabout word or expression for another felt to be too blunt or otherwise distasteful or painful. 2. A mild or roundabout word or expression substituted for another to avoid giving offense or pain.
The correct words describing American society sound too harsh or painful so people describe the society as “morally permissive”. What are the correct words? The correct words are immoral, depraved, licentious, dissolute, etc.
permissive. Permitting: granting permission.
morally permissive. Granting permission on moral issues.
Many Americans go to church, regard themselves as Christians. They enjoy the worship services, sing, pray, listen to a sermon, etc. They believe that if they follow the teachings of their church they are Christians and will go to heaven. Yet they are also, without thinking about it, very much a product of the morally permissive culture they live in. They regard themselves as Christians but their beliefs, outlooks, attitudes, and values reflect the permissiveness of the godless culture in which they are embedded. So are they really Christians or are they victims of self-deception? Man’s capacity for self-deception is simply amazing. Can a person condone and accept immorality and be a Christian?
America has lost its way morally. America no longer knows right from wrong. Morality is central to Christianity. Immoral people go to hell. In Christianity morality is not an option. True Christianity involves practice.
1 Cor 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, {10} nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
How have American Christians gotten so far off track spiritually? They are sheep, they follow. They are naive, gullible. They believe what they are told. They believe their minister, the psychiatrist, the “expert”, the mass media, the teacher, the government official, the politician, etc. They follow the crowd, believe what everyone else believes. In a culture of lie, they have been deceived.
