Real Christianity does work
The world that I see is one that is just filled with foolishness — foolishness arising from every moral malady under the sun: high ego, arrogance, haughtiness, conceit, laziness, selfishness, greed, envy, jealousy, vanity, lust, lasciviousness, depravity, malice, anger, hatred, indifference, impulsiveness, impetuousness, prodigality, high dishonesty, deceit, lying, lack of moral principle, self-deception, etc. Most people are not guilty of all of these things but most people are guilty of at least some. A person has a mile high ego and skin so sensitive that you can hardly get near him without offending him. And then he deliberately stands in your way, obstructing your passage, just daring you to try to pass him. He is nasty, irritable, pugnacious, always trying to pick fights. The atmosphere in a home is always tense, ugly, bad. An argument is always just around the corner. One person strikes a blow, the other strikes back and then there is a fight. That is life. People bickering, fighting, doing bad things to each other. A person has a volatile temper. Say the wrong word and they erupt like a volcano, shooting fire ten miles high. People going around with a chip on their shoulder just waiting for someone to knock it off. That is the life I have seen. Nasty, bad, hateful, malicious people out to do others bad. Women maliciously gossiping about someone, trying to do them damage. That is life. Isn’t it? Well, my message to you is that it doesn’t have to be this way. You can’t change other people, you can’t change the world, but you can change yourself. And that message is the message of Christianity. That is the message of the Bible. The message of Jesus was to live as he taught; to change your outlooks and attitudes; to change the way you respond to people and deal with them; to live life in the way he taught. I am here to tell you that His message does work. Real Christianity does work. You just have to obey, do it. And to do it, you first have to want to do it. And if you change yourself, life changes for you. The rest of the world remains the same but it is as though you are now going around with a bubble around you and inside that bubble all is peace and happiness. The rest of the world doesn’t know how to live and they are unhappy, but you know how to live and you are happy. Living in accordance with God’s instructions gives peace and happiness. Underneath, it is all about living right, living as you should, doing the right thing. It is about virtuous, good living. That is what God wants of us.
