The heart and essence of what Christianity is about
Christianity is about practice. It is about obedience to God in the form of following the teachings of Jesus as found in the New Testament. However, there is something more to Christianity. Underneath the practice is a faith in God, Jehovah God, and a love of Him and the way of goodness and virtue that he stands for — and a rejection of immorality and sin. This is the heart and essence of what Christianity is about. Because of this, being a true Christian is a highly personal thing. It involves personal commitment and the inclination, willingness and strength to go against the ways, outlooks and attitudes of a wicked, immoral world; the willingness to stand up for what is right.
What is Christianity not about? Many people equate Christianity with church attendance; participation in ceremonies, rites and rituals; religious images, icons, relics, art; compliance with cut and dried formulas for getting saved; spirited singing; etc. Christianity is not about rituals or things you can just mechanically do. It is not about participation in church activities or doing the things a pastor wants you to do. Christianity is about examining your conduct and behavior in everyday life and adjusting it to conform to the things Jesus taught. Honesty, integrity and moral purity play a very big role — as also do humility, peacefulness, etc.
