What did Jesus mean by loving your neighbor? What is its opposite?
Jesus said the first commandment was to love God and that the second was to love your neighbor. By loving your neighbor he meant having a brotherly consideration for him, a compassion for him, that causes you to treat him right, do what is right by him. What is the opposite of loving your neighbor? It is having a hard feeling (an unloving feeling) toward him that allows you to plunder him, rip him off, take advantage of him, deceive him, treat him badly, abuse him, etc. Behind it is an unloving, hard attitude towards your fellow man. It is the attitude that lies behind the thief, cheat, swindler. It is the main underlying property of the criminal mind. The criminal takes advantage of others, swindles them, without conscience. But it is not just criminals that carry this hard attitude toward their fellow man. A whole lot of people do. A lot of people are selfish, care only about themselves, are hardened toward others.
