Q. Who am I? What am I? What am I made of? What kind of person am I? How do I find out what I am? What kind of questions do I ask myself to find out what I am? A. To find out what you are ask yourself where you are most comfortable, where you are most at ease. Ask: "Around what kind of people am I most comfortable and most at ease? In what kind of atmosphere am I most comfortable? Am I more comfortable around deceitful and dishonest people or around honest people, around indecent and obscene people or around decent people, around the "swinger" or around the straight person? Am I happier and more comfortable in a church or in a night club, at a picnic or at a topless Go Go, working around the house or out in a bar? What kind of music do I like? Classical music or jazz? Quiet, reflective music or Rock music? Church music or popular music? It is important to know who you are and what you are. Socrates said "Know yourself". It has been said "Be yourself" and Shakespeare said "This above all. To thine own self be true." To be true to yourself you must know who you are and what you are. Your must know yourself. Otherwise you may get caught up in that greatest of all foolishness ---trying to be what you are not. You may find yourself trying to find happiness in the company of the Dishonest, the Indecent and the Irreverent when you are really only happy in the company of the Honest, the Decent and the Religious. You may find yourself trying to find happiness in the atmosphere of a night club when it is really the quiet, meditative atmosphere of a church that suits your disposition and spirit. Don't do that which is in conflict with your basic nature and spirit. Not if you wish to be happy. Know yourself and be true to yourself. Be true to the highest that lies within you. Dec 1980
