An old story - man’s rebellion against God
I would say that the strongest theme that runs through the Bible, from beginning to end, is man’s continued waywardness, immorality and wickedness, his inclination toward challenging God, confronting him, rejecting him. From Eve in the Garden of Eden to the days of Noah, to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, to the rejection and crucifixion of Christ, the theme remains. Man in insubordination, man challenging his Creator, man defying his Creator. And now in modern western society, in America, western Europe, and other westernized societies, the great, eternal, never-ending rebellion of man against God comes out in high-relief. Specifically in the modern liberal thought that has so taken over in the world, its godlessness and atheism, we see man in rebellion against God. It confronts God and the Bible at every turn. It is forever challenging, questioning, contradicting and rejecting that Jehovah God that we know from the Bible. It stands in defiance. It will turn to other gods but it wants nothing to do with him. And on no other topic is this so obvious and true as with the topic of homosexuality. Modern liberal man is now at the point of not only just condoning, but endorsing that great sin of sins of the Bible. That epitome of sin! That sin for which God in great anger utterly destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone. That sin that God so hates and detests.
That incident of God raining fire and destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah, according to the Bible, is to be taken as a reminder and message to all man about the consequences of defying God and living immorally. Man just doesn’t see, he doesn’t hear, he doesn’t understand. He doesn’t, he won’t, he never will.
What do we see if we look at the modern western world in perspective? Well, there is another great force in this world. It is the force of Evil. And this force has a heart, head, soul and spirit. We are talking about Satan. The Bible tells us he is the ruler of this world. Nowhere do we see this so clearly as when we look at modern liberalism and the way it has gained power in modern America and Western Europe. From Hollywood, to the mass media, to liberal Christianity, to government power, it holds the power and its power just waxes stronger and stronger and stronger. But it is not a new story. It is a story as old as time itself. The power of Satan. His power to entice, deceive and delude. But the end of the story is not pretty. It is about punishment and hell. It is about the end of Satan and all those who were deceived by him.
