There are some truths in life that each man must discover for himself. One learns them in no other way. One doesn't learn them from books. He doesn't learn them from other people. He only learns them from his own discovery. When we make a big and important discovery on our own, then it registers. Otherwise it doesn't register. We learn by discovery. We learn from our own personal experience. One thing this is true for is that thing called persistence. Some people are so lucky as to discover for themselves the power, value and importance of persistence. They make that really great and amazing discovery that with determination and perseverance they can do anything. They discover their own powers. Other people never discover this great truth. They go through their entire lives never sticking with anything, never completing anything, jumping from one thing to another, failing in everything. They give up on everything almost before they start. They have no confidence at all in their own powers. Perhaps the problem is laziness. Perhaps they are just too lazy to put in the effort. Life is a struggle. We don't get anything easy. We have to work for it. Most of us have our weaknesses and handicaps. Nature didn't give us everything. We got slighted on some things. It is perseverance and determination that makes the difference. We have to overcome our weaknesses --- or work around them. Another great discovery that many never make is the value of that thing called self-reliance. Perseverance and self-reliance, two really important assets in our journey through life. Aug 2010
