How do I see modern America? I see a competitive, dog-eat-dog world with everyone on a treadmill, worried about keeping their jobs, hustling. It is a rat race that no-one likes. Everyone is in harness and thinks there is no alternative. It is like a game of musical chairs with everyone scurrying and scrambling so as not to be "last man out". I see everyone pushing and shoving in order to get a place at the table or to hold the place they already have. Everyone lives in insecurity and fear. Just to get into the race you have to invest a great deal of effort in the form of studying in school. The increasingly technical nature of the society makes the schooling required more and more technical and difficult. It is a rat race just to get into the rat race. People are valued according to how successful they are in this rat race and those who find themselves left behind end up with emotional problems arising from low self-esteem.
