What are the very minimum requirements for living?

On how little can one live? What are the very minimum requirements for living? What are the minimum requirements in the way of food? What are the minimum requirements in the way of clothing? What are the minimum requirements in the way of shelter?

Food. If you live on the right foods you can live on a few cents a day. See How cheaply can one eat?

Shelter. Your shelter can be as simple as a small tent. Mountain climbers sleep in tents at the highest altitudes where night-time temperatures get as low as -10 oF or -20 oF. In Anchorage, Alaska where temperatures can get as low as -10 or -20, there are thousands of homeless people, mostly alcohol and drug addicts, and many of them live out in the woods in tents even throughout the winter. A few freeze to death every winter but that is probably due to being stoned on alcohol or drugs. [There are homeless shelters in Anchorage that they can stay at but many refuse to stay in them — they don’t like living with the kind of people that one finds in homeless shelters (alcohol and drug addicts, etc.). ] Across the USA there are hundreds of thousands of homeless people and many live outdoors in tents (and a great many others just sleep on the streets). Many American Indians lived in tents (or very rough dwellings) before the arrival of the white man.

Clothing. In the tropical regions of the world very little clothing is needed. In the cold regions of the world warm clothing is needed in the wintertime. However, one can buy warm used clothing very cheaply at a Salvation Army store.

So what are the very minimum requirements for living? Is it possible that some people deliberately choose that very minimum lifestyle for one reason or another? Like they perhaps don’t like bosses or the modern 8:00 to 5:00 lifestyle? So how about picking a place with really nice year round weather like southern California? There are lots of homeless shelters near most cities if you want to stay at them. And at least some shelters serve great portions of really great food. There is a Methodist run shelter near me where I have on occasion donated food. I would go in and be greeted by the wonderful aroma of really great smelling food in preparation and see an abundance of all kinds of pies and pastry and all kinds of good looking things lying on tables around (probably donated by supermarkets and bakeries). The shelter seems to be pretty popular. There are always lots of homeless people gathered around out in front of the shelter talking. In a sense, these people are probably eating a lot better than we do. They have a choice of all kinds pies, pastry, and sweets while our diet is quite restricted and austere — we don’t eat pies, cake, and similar sweets.
