On contentment with little
1 Tim 6:6-11 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For
we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can
carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we
shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into
temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts
which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of
money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have
strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows. But you, O man of God,
flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, patience, gentleness.
Heb 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content
with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will
never leave you nor forsake you."
Col 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the
earth.
Luke 12:15-24 And He said to them, Take heed and beware of
covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance
of the things he possesses. Then He spoke a parable to them,
saying: The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.
And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, since I
have no room to store my crops? So he said, I will do this: I
will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will
store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul,
"Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your
ease; eat, drink, and be merry. But God said to him, Fool!
This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will
those things be which you have provided? So is he who lays up
treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Then He said
to His disciples, Therefore I say to you, do not worry about
your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will
put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than
clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap,
which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of
how much more value are you than the birds?
Luke 12:29 And do not seek what you should eat or what you
should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things
the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that
you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all
these things shall be added to you.
Luke 12:33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide
yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the
heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth
destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be
also.
Mat 6:19 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and
steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break
in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will
be also.
Mat 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will
hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to
the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you
will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you
will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than
clothing?
Job 31:24-25,28 If I have made gold my hope, Or said to fine
gold, 'You are my confidence'; If I have rejoiced because my
wealth was great, And because my hand had gained much; This
also would be an iniquity deserving of judgment, For I would
have denied God who is above.
Prov 30:8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me
neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food allotted to
me.
