Free government food

I just saw the YouTube video

USA on the Brink of Chaos: How Americans Are Living the End of the American Dream —

Best Documentary

It is about what happened here in America during the Covid crisis. The Covid crisis hit countries all around the world very hard and I am sure people in the poorer countries of the world suffered a lot more than Americans. America is a rich country and Americans got off relatively easy I would say.

First I want to call attention to an article that I wrote back in April 2001 in which I asserted that I could eat on 16 cents a day ($58.40 per year): How cheaply can one eat? Prices have gone up a little. It would cost me a little more now.

What would I do if I ended up evicted — out on the street with no income? I would sleep in the back of my truck and eat as I indicated in the above article — on a diet of rice, beans, oatmeal, pasta, and bread. I would simply accept my lot, blaming no one but myself, and attempt to get back on my feet.

What is shown at the beginning of the video is people picking up boxes of free government food. It was something that was going on all over the country during this period. Here 3000 cars were lined up picking up free food (courtesy of the government) at a location in Los Angeles. Each family was given three boxes which was supposed to be adequate for a family of four for a week. One box contained fruit — plums, grapes, oranges, etc. Another box contained 20 lbs of frozen chicken items. I don’t know what the third box contained — probably canned and boxed goods and vegetables. That long line of cars included expensive brands: Lexus, Mercedes, Tesla, etc. with well dressed drivers. One could interpret all these expensive cars to imply that even well-to-do people can lose their jobs and get hungry or as simply confirming that old adage that when something is being given out for free everyone will get in line. I personally am a believer in the adage. I would think that the U.S. Government would have enough sense to know that if you offer free food to everyone, everyone will get in line.

This food giveaway was repeated each week.

What interests me is that the amount of food provided per person was far more and more varied than my wife and I would consume in a week. I would say you could live like a king on what was being handed out and have a lot left over. I guess most Americans eat a lot more than we do. Perhaps that is why they are so overweight.

I wonder how much those three boxes of food for each family cost the government. I will bet they cost a lot. And I will bet that the contractor that boxed them made a good profit for himself also. All of this was paid by the American taxpayer. The current national debt is $32.94 trillion but that is no concern at all.

I have eaten that free government food myself. A friend of my wife’s, who happens to be Latin and wealthy, gets free food through some school-related government program and shares it with my wife. Apparently the school sends free food home with her children. That family is, it seems, picky about food and what they don’t want they either throw away or give to my wife.

It seems to be a theme of this video, and of liberals in general, that a lot of Americans are going hungry. The problem is our system! The capitalist system! It is a heartless system. We need a kindhearted system like socialism — like the socialistic systems they have in the Scandinavian countries. Or maybe Communism.

We live in a world of lie, falsehoods. Our population is stupid. People don’t think. They don’t question, examine. They believe something is true just because that is what they have heard or read. They are not critical thinkers. They are sheep. At bottom, truth is just not that important to them. Getting to the real truth is just too much work. And the world is just full of people who distort, bend, deceive and lie for any of many reasons. People are told that the cost of food for a family of four is x dollars. It is then assumed that if their income doesn’t support that cost, then they are going hungry.

If there are Americans that don’t have enough to eat in this country it is because they are stupid! They are too soft and childish! They don’t know how to manage money and squander it! If they were living in a third world country they would know hardship and know how to live on rice and beans! A rice and bean diet is probably far healthier than the diet they are used to.
