It is all a matter of cultural viewpoint

The outlooks and attitudes of the modern English speaking world (i.e. America, England, Canada, Australia, etc.) on the topic of sex are galaxies away from what they were a hundred years ago. There has been a gigantic transformation in outlook on this topic over this period of time. The attitudes of a hundred years ago were based on the attitudes of New Testament Christianity with its emphasis on chastity and moral purity. The current attitudes are those of modern Humanism /atheism with its emphasis on materialism and pleasure. From the reference point of the person of a hundred years ago modern western man is highly immoral, perverted, depraved, and wicked. From the reference point of the morally permissive culture of modern western man the person of a hundred years ago was Victorian, puritanical, prudish and intellectually unenlightened. A hundred years ago sexual promiscuity and perverted sex practices were shocking and disgusting. Today they are the latest vogue. How can I explain what has happened? To what can I compare it? Consider this: Two men, Peter and Paul, both witness a particular event. The event is this: A man in his mid 40's grabs a young cute five year old girl, quickly slits her throat with a knife, then puts her on a spit and proceeds to roast her over a fire. Peter sits in shock and anger at the sight, can’t believe what he is seeing. Paul watches it without emotion. He has seen this many times and it makes no impression on him. Each is watching the event from the viewpoint of his own particular culture. It is all a matter of cultural viewpoint.
