People listen to only those things they want to hear
It is a great fact of human nature: People listen to only those things they want to hear. They will refuse to listen to anything they don’t want to hear. God’s message to the world? They just don’t want to hear it. What kind of phenomenon is this? It is not something new. It is as old as time itself.
Matt 11:21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. 23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee. Even the great and astounding miracles that Jesus was performing weren’t enough to make the citizens of Chorazin and Bethsaida listen to his message of repentance. It was a message they just didn’t want to hear. And they wouldn’t listen. Man hasn’t changed one bit from the oldest times. There are some things he just refuses to listen to. It goes all the way back to the days of Noah and the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Satan rules this world. He rules in the hearts and minds of men.
